BREAST CANCER. FUNCTIONAL BREAST AND SENTINEL NODE IMAGING

Figure 3
48-year-old asymptomatic female underwent
screening mammography. Mammogram (not shown) showed a suspicious ill-defined mass in the
upper and inner quadrant of the right breast measuring 1.5 x 1.8 cm in diameter.
Scintimammogram shows a faint focal uptake in the upper portion of the right breast above
the nipple. The uptake throughout the left breast is normal. Note: Faint uptake of right
breast mass on scintimammogram is most likely related to the fact that abnormality was in
the medial portion of the breast which is far distant from the nuclear medicine detector
in this patient with a large breast.
Histopathology of this mass was obtained through
excisional biopsy with pre-biopsy needle localization and revealed infiltrating ductal
carcinoma.
