El crecimiento de la Medicina Nuclear Latinoamericana, requiere de un órgano de expresión de los resultados de investigación en nuestra disciplina, además de ser un órgano de difusión, de educación continuada, discusión de casos clínicos interesantes, etc.

Esta función se cumplió desde los años 1968 a 1987, por la antigua Revista de ALASBIMN, publicada por los esfuerzos ejemplares de investigadores como el Dr. Osvaldo De Grossi inicialmente. Este esfuerzo llegó a su fin en 1987 por razones económicas que hicieron insostenible la continuación de la publicación de está revista. La Sociedad Española de Medicina Nuclear, a través de su revista nos brindó su apoyo para continuar con este esfuerzo hasta hace dos años atrás. En la reunión de Lima de ALASBIMN, Octubre de 1997 el Comité Central aceptó la proposición de la Sociedad Chilena de Medicina Nuclear para continuar nuestra actividad en una nueva modalidad: La publicación de una revista virtual en el Internet con formato digital de programación rápida, eficiente, altamente económica y seguramente a tono con una nueva modalidad de comunicación a través del Internet que se impondrá en el nuevo milenio.

Con orgullo y agradecimiento a tantos colaboradores, presentamos hoy día el primer número de ALASBIMN Journal, publicación trimestral en la Internet sin costo para lectores y autores publicada con el patrocinio de la industria que nos apoya y que agradecemos especialmente.

La alta calidad de los trabajos científicos que publicaremos está garantizada por un comité consultivo editorial constituido por líderes americanos y europeos en nuestra disciplina.

Los artículos permanecerán indefinidamente en el WEB desde donde podrán ser consultados e impresos por el lector sin costo especial. Estará automáticamente indexado en el Internet.

La Sociedad Chilena de Medicina Nuclear ofrece hoy día, en este primer número trabajos sobre Oncología, Cardiología y Neuropsiquiatría Nuclear. Trabajo de los Drs. Alonso, Mut y colaboradores recibió el premio Hugo Claure, otorgado al mejor trabajo presentado por investigadores jóvenes durante el Congreso de ALASBIMN, Lima, Perú, 1997. El trabajo de los Drs. Jofré, González y colaboradores constituye un interesante tema relacionado con la perfusión miocárdica en patología coronaria. El trabajo de Francisco J. Mena. y colaboradores es una muestra única de datos normativos pediátricos utilizables para Spect cerebral además de presentar información pertinente en el adulto. Igualmente presentamos caso clínico de la Dra. Sonia Neubauer.

Nuestros agradecimientos especiales al  equipo de trabajo del Sistema de Servicios de Información y Bibliotecas (SISIB) de la Universidad de Chile, que ha organizado este proyecto con entusiasmo, eficacia, profesionalismo y visión.

 These functions were fulfilled between 1968 and 1987 by the old Revista de Alasbimn that was published by the exemplary efforts of researchers like Osvaldo de Grossi among others. This effort was terminated in 1987 due to economical reasons that made this venture nonviable. However the Sociedad Espanola de Medicina Nuclear and their Journal supported our activity until two years ago. Finally during the Alasbimn Congress in Lima, Peru October 1997 the proposal of the Chilean Society of Nuclear Medicine and Biology was accepted in order to continue this type of activity with a new modality for a scientific periodical: the publication of a virtual Journal in the Internet, with digital format, with fast diagramming, efficient and at the same time economical and certainly within a new modality of communication, that will emerge trough the Internet in the next Millenium.

 With pride and thanks to so many collaborators we present today the Fist Issue of ALASBIMN JOURNAL, a quarterly publication in the Internet. This Journal will be published without cost to readers and authors and will be supported by industry related to Nuclear medicine activities. We thank this support and acknowledgement with gratitude.

 The high quality of the scientific contributions that we will publish is guaranteed by a high level Scientific Advisory Board of American and European scientists that enthusiastically have offered their support, we are thankful to them.

 The scientific articles will remain indefinitely in the Web and will be able to be retrieved and printed without cost, while the Internet will automatically index them.

 The Sociedad Chilena de Medicina y Biologia Nuclear offers today in the First Issue of ALASBIMN JOURNAL papers on Oncology, Cardiology and NeuroSPECT. The paper by Drs. Alonso, Mut et al. was awarded the Hugo Claure Award for the best Young Researcher Paper at the Alasbimn Meeting in Lima, Peru 1997. It addresses the subject of Detection of melanoma metastasis with Tc99m MIBI. The paper by Drs. Jofre, Gonzalez et al. is an interesting contribution in a subject related to myocardial perfusion in coronary artery disease. The work by Francisco J. Mena et al is a unique compilation of normal Pediatric Brain Spect imaging useful for future work in our community, it offers also a normal adult analysis of distribution of cerebral blood flow. There is also an interesting Clinical Case by Dra. Sonia Neubauer.
